Nissar Aroth Ibrahim, known on stage as Nisar Wayanad, was a Kerala singer whose working life sat between Mappilapattu, the Muslim folk-song tradition of Malabar, and the Hindi film songs that Malayali audiences in the Gulf asked for by name. He died on the evening of Saturday 5 September 2026…

In their own words

He took on the responsibility of supporting his family at a very young age following the death of his father, and now he too has been taken from us far too soon. More than a talented singer, he was a very dear friend to me. This is an irreplaceable loss.

Noujas Kayakkool, close friend, to Gulf News, September 2026.

He was with me earlier yesterday morning. I knew he had been running a fever for a couple of days, but he was taking paracetamol, thinking it would subside.

Noujas Kayakkool to Gulf News, about Saturday 5 September 2026.

The comparison to Udit Narayan followed him everywhere, but Nisar Wayanad was his own artist. Immediately recognisable on stage, they said.

A friend in Dubai said Nisar was the real thing, the kind of singer who'd learn whatever song you asked for and make it his own. Gone too soon, friend.

Kambalakkad and Iroth House

Native of Kambalakkad in Wayanad district, Kerala. Kerala Kaumudi identified him as the son of Ibrayi and Zainaba of Iroth House in Kambalakkad. Ibrayi is also written Ibrahim. The stage name kept the district with him.

Close friend Noujas Kayakkool told Gulf News that Nisar took on responsibility for supporting his family at a very young age after his father's death. No sourced school history was found. Age at death is reported as both 44 and 43. This profile does not invent a birth day or a birth year.

No formal training record found

No school, college, or formal music-training record was found in the sources used. This profile does not invent one. The public record of his training is the stage itself: Mappilapattu, Hindi film songs learned by request, and nearly two decades of live work, as IBTimes India described the circuit.

A district in the name, a voice people booked

He built a name on Malayali stages in Kerala and the Gulf as Nisar Wayanad. The district in the name marked origin. The comparison with Bollywood singer Udit Narayan marked the sound. That likeness was a gift and a label. He is not Udit Narayan, and no family relationship is reported. Nibin Navas told Gulf News that Nisar was often…

Shahana Nisar, two daughters, and the Dubai circle

Married to Shahana Nisar. Two daughters. Mathrubhumi named the daughters (common romanization Simbreena and Ambreena) and listed siblings Bushra, Naseera and Ansar. Gulf News and IBTimes India confirmed wife and two daughters without printing the daughters' names. English sources used here did not independently spell the daughters' names, so those spellings are Mathrubhumi's report, not a civil-registry extract. Friends in…

Janazah, and the Mappilapattu tradition

Funeral rites were Islamic. A janazah was held in Dubai, then the body was repatriated for rites in Wayanad. His Mappilapattu work belonged to Kerala's Muslim folk-song tradition. No published political manifesto or religious essay was found. This profile does not invent doctrine beyond the reported funeral practice and the genre he was known for.

Requests, a voice, and one younger singer

A working bridge between Mappilapattu and Hindi request songs for Malayali audiences in the UAE. Nibin Navas called him one of the most underrated singers in the Malayalam industry, but immediately recognisable on stage. Anupama said he inspired her daughter Ziyan to perform. His YouTube channel, Nisar Wayanad Official, preserved live Hindi and qawwali-style sets under his own name. Playback…

No prize list found

No formal award list was found in the sources used. This profile does not invent prizes. Public recognition was the nickname trail (a Udit-like voice, and Junior Udit in some Malayalam reports) and repeat booking on Independence Day, Onam, and club stages.

A label, not a scandal

None documented in the sources used. This profile does not invent one. The only public tension is a label. Friends said calling him only a Mappilapattu singer undersold a wider set list.

Dubai, 5 September 2026, hours before Ajman

Saturday 5 September 2026, evening, in a Dubai hospital, hours before an Ajman show. Noujas Kayakkool said Nisar had been running a fever for a couple of days and was taking paracetamol, thinking it would pass. They had been together on the Saturday morning. Later Nisar called to say he was going to hospital. Friends including Yazir Hameed and Nibin Navas were at another event in Sharjah when they heard he had been admitted. They reached the hospital after doctors could no longer save him.

Kerala Kaumudi and Manorama News named Mankhool Hospital. One local report said Aster Hospital, Mankhool. Gulf News did not name the hospital.

Gulf News reported the death notification as listing acidosis as the direct cause, systemic inflammatory response syndrome of infectious origin with organ failure as the leading cause, and other septicaemia as the underlying cause. Noujas said he knew of diabetes and of no other standing condition. Some local Malayalam reports described a heart attack. That is not what Gulf News reported from the death notification, and this profile does not treat the heart-attack line as established.

A janazah was held in Dubai the same night, about 300 people. Shahid Manikkoth, as reported by Gulf News, said repatriation paperwork was completed in about four hours. Relatives and friends then flew to Kerala for rites in his hometown in Wayanad. No cemetery name was published.
