Pepa Arenós was a Catalan actress of theatre, film, television, radio and dubbing, and a lifelong political activist, whose career spanned more than half a century. Television audiences in Catalonia knew her best as Rosalia in the TV3 series La Granja and Ventdelplà, while a generation of children heard her voice as Baba the fortune teller in the Catalan dub of Dragon Ball.

Josefa Arenós i Ardiaca was born in 1948 in the Gràcia district of Barcelona. She graduated in dramatic art from the Institut del Teatre and began acting with the independent theatre group El Camaleó, part of the wave of committed independent theatre that grew up in Catalonia in the last years of the Franco dictatorship.

Her professional stage career began with Peter Weiss's Marat-Sade, directed by Adolfo Marsillach in 1969. She worked closely with director Ricard Salvat and the Companyia Adrià Gual, appearing in Primera història d'Esther, Aigües encantades, Ronda de mort a Sinera and Les Bacants, and later with Josep Maria Flotats's company in Copi's Una visita inoportuna, directed by Jorge Lavelli, and in Stalin in 2007. On television she moved from the televised theatre of the 1970s to a string of TV3 series, including Tot un senyor, La Granja, Estació d'enllaç, Jet Lag and Ventdelplà. Her film roles included La punyalada, Fernando Trueba's El embrujo de Shanghai and Inconscientes. In 1986 she presented the ecology programme Línia Verda on Ràdio 4.

Arenós was also known for her political commitment. Under Franco she was a member of Bandera Roja and the PSUC, and she presented the historic Diada of 11 September 1976 in Sant Boi de Llobregat, the first large authorised commemoration of Catalonia's national day after Franco's death. During the rally she spontaneously denounced a police helicopter circling overhead, to applause from the crowd. In later years she supported the Catalan independence movement, was vice president of the group teatRe amb R de República and joined the long campaign to turn the former police headquarters on Via Laietana in Barcelona into a place of memory.

She died on 25 October 2026, aged 78. Her death was confirmed by fellow campaigners of the Via Laietana 43 platform and reported the same day by Ara, VilaWeb, 3CatInfo and El País. No cause of death was made public.

78 is not old anymore, or it didn't feel it from here. My mother was 78 too when we lost her last year, no warning, no name for it in the end. Reading this stings more than I expected for someone I only knew as a voice.
