71, in a hospital far from home. My brother went the same way a few years back, overseas, everyone hoping the next day would be better. I didn't know much about Timor-Leste's politics before this but reading about the 2002 independence proclamation tonight, that's a man who did something with his life. Sorry for his family.

Never heard of him before this came up in a Norwegian genealogy group I'm in. Someone mentioned he ran the public dental service in Øvre Eiker for over a decade before going into Parliament. Not a name that means anything to me personally but that's a solid, unglamorous kind of public service.

My father watched Purple Noon on a boat once, said Delon had the kind of face that made you trust him and fear him at the same time. I think he was right. A real loss.
