Read that he walked away from the Senate seat in 78 because, in his words, the pay could not support his family. Not many would say that part out loud. First Democrat to ever hold that Delaware County seat, and he left it on principle about money, not scandal. That stuck with me more than any campaign speech I've read.

My book club watched The Magdalene Sisters on someone's old VHS back in 2003 and nobody said a word for ten minutes after it ended. Phyllis MacMahon as Sister Augusta was the one that stayed with me, that flat certainty in her voice. Finding out years later she'd actually lived that laundry life before acting made the whole thing land differently.

Read this on my porch this morning with my coffee going cold. Fifty three, no children of her own, and still gave everything she had to those nieces and nephews. That's the kind of teacher and the kind of aunt this world needs more of. Rest well, Angela.

I keep circling back to the same detail, that nobody knew for years. Three years of friends thinking she was just gone, not knowing, and then this indictment comes and gives everyone an answer nobody wanted. Her siblings asked for privacy and I think about that phrase her friend used, a true light, and how ordinary and devastating that is at the same time. She was 32. Edit: I had her age wrong the first time I typed this, 32, not 33.

My daughter danced with Rambert in the nineties and spoke of him with such respect. A real artist who understood that craft matters. The world needed more of that voice.

Born in Hamakita, spent his life holding power to account on the Mainichi's evening edition and television. He believed newspapers still matter. I hope he knew they do.

My father played him on VHS over and over, that 1977 European Cup final. Said Keegan showed you could give everything and still have joy in it. He was right about that.
