My mum rang me from Auckland this morning to tell me, before it even hit the news sites here. Growing up we always had his almanac on the kitchen bench, dad swore by it for the boat. Strange to feel homesick for a weather book.

Didn't know her name until this week, saw a small piece about an Emory grad who became a judge in Texas and it stopped me mid scroll. Funny how you can live near a place someone studied and never know the life that came after. Fifty one. That Angela House work she did, reentry and recovery, stuck with me more than the titles did.

Never got into the comedy stuff, not my scene, but that Fabulous Poodles record my roommate had in college got so much play. Mirror Star was just a good song. Didn't know the name behind it until today.

My mother called me to tell me, she has one of the Pecados y virtudes prints framed in her hallway in Santiago. I grew up walking past that face every day.

Heard him speak once about the Patriotes and how ordinary people hold history together. That stuck with me. What a gift he gave Quebec.

Traumjob got me hooked on Swiss television. A self-made man who wasn't afraid to be seen making decisions. We need more of that kind of energy in business.

Petey's Preds Party. Petey's Golf Classic. Petey's everything. That man turned Parkinson's into purpose and Nashville loved him for it. Raised millions. Built something real.

I had the chance to hear him speak about ethanol and agriculture policy about ten years ago, and what struck me was how much he genuinely cared about the future for the next generation of farmers. That kind of conviction doesn't fade. Deepest condolences to Diane and the whole family.

Jimmy built something real. Not just the music, though that was great, but a whole world people wanted to be part of. That's rare.

Watched Downfall maybe ten times and every time General Weidling broke my heart a little more. Michael Mendl had this way of making you see the whole man, not just the uniform. A real loss.

He talked about cooking big dinners, honoring his great-grandmother, staying present for his family. That's the work nobody sees, but it mattered most. Rest easy, Hal.
