I remember scrolling through the search updates every night with my sister, we'd never even been to Tenerife but we couldn't stop watching for that kid. 19 years old, just trying to get back to his hotel. That last bit about him running out of water on the phone call still gets me.

I only moved to Jackson a few years ago and heard about him through a neighbour who'd been through a custody case in his court. She said he actually listened to her kids. That stuck with me even though I never met him. Nineteen years on that bench is a long time to keep caring like that.
