Alan Turing laid the foundations of computer science, led the breaking of the German Enigma cipher at Bletchley Park, and proposed the test for machine intelligence that bears his name. Prosecuted for homosexuality in 1952, he died two years later. He received a posthumous royal pardon in 2013.

My grandmother loved Alan. When she died we played their work at the funeral. Now they're both gone. Strange how connected it all is.
