For Rachel Rabin · 19 Sept 2026
okay so I need to write something because this actually got to me. I've been reading about the '48 war for years, the whole Rabin family thing, and Rachel was always this footnote to Yitzhak but she wasn't a footnote at all, she was out there carrying water barrels from Lebanese villages so people could just have something to drink. 101 years old. she outlived basically everyone who could tell that story firsthand. I remember reading the line about there being no trees, not even trees, and something about that stuck with me for days, just the bareness of it, starting with nothing on a rocky mountain and calling it a dream. anyway. rest well Rachel
