Saw this on the sports wire this morning, just a line about Lockhart, Texas, and I had to read it twice before it registered who it was. My dad used to talk about the 63 Longhorns like they invented football, Carlisle at quarterback, that Cotton Bowl MVP against Navy the next year. Funny thing is I always half remembered him more for going into banking and oil after, like the football was just the opening chapter. 84 years old. Seven years fighting the cancer, the reports say. Anyway. Didn't know I'd care this much about a name from an old box score, but here I am.
