78. Read the notice twice before it registered. Never heard the broadcasts myself, but a life that long in one country's media is not nothing. Hope his family are being looked after right now.

"Talking to people who don't read is unpleasant." Kept that line taped inside a ledger at the shop for twenty years, never fully sure why it stuck. Rest well.

So I keep starting this comment and deleting it. My brother in law had one of those Bionic Wrenches, the one with the sliding teeth, and he used to make everybody at Thanksgiving try to strip a bolt with it just to watch their face. I read up on the guy after that, the Sears lawsuit, all of it, the jury award that got thrown out later. Seventy years old. Anyway I guess what I am trying to say is a guy who made a tool that good, out of watching his kid struggle with pliers, that is not nothing. Rest easy Dan. Edit, fixed his name, I had it wrong the first time.

A man who believed teachers deserved dignity and said so even when it cost him. Rest well, Agni.

People's Artist of Russia. The only one in his theatre's whole history. That says everything.
For Laura Claridge · 9 Sept 2026
A scholar who understood that the people we think we know deserve to be known honestly. Her work on Lempicka and Rockwell will outlast us all. She was rigorous and fearless about complexity.
For R. Sarath · 6 Sept 2026
His films on missing girls and environmental catastrophe were not comfortable viewing, but cinema shouldn't always comfort. He knew that. Rest well.
For Francois Rosse · 6 Sept 2026
A student of Messiaen, and he kept learning from everything around him. That takes real courage.
For Archibald "Archie" MacKinnon · 2 Sept 2026
A kid from Cranbrook who read the papers, decided to chase a coach he'd never met, and ended up building Canada's first Olympic gold in rowing. That's the kind of story business schools should teach.
For Sir Michael Gambon · 13 Oct 2025
National Theatre lost one of its pillars today. Gambon was the real thing, stage first and always. The rest followed because he was that good.

that's a beautiful way to come to it

Agree. He answered my email once, as a nobody kid. Changed how I thought about the work.
