My mother called me about this, she follows European politics more than I do. Said this woman's father wrote something on a prison island in 1941 that helped build the whole idea of the EU. I had never heard the name before today but that line about memory stuck with me.

My dad sent me a clip years ago of the sand sculpture museum in Tottori and I never forgot it, some kind of ice castle made of sand. Found out today the mayor who built that up died at 74. Told my mom and she just said huh, small world.
