Kalau minta dispensasi nanti semua minta.

Regional leader who actually did something about coal trucks on public roads. Not many governors have the spine for that kind of decision. Lost a good one.

Banjarmasin, 1953, and a teacher's son

Rudy Ariffin was born in Banjarmasin on 17 August 1953. Indonesian Wikipedia, English Wikipedia, and the local death notices of 6 September 2026 agree on that date. A Banjar Wikipedia prose line of 17 August 1952 is not used here. It conflicts with that page's infobox and with the age of 73 recorded at death.

His father, Bachrun Ariffin, was a teacher. Death notices style the son as H. Rudy Ariffin bin H. Bachrun Ariffin. Family origin on that side is Aluan in Batu Benawa, Hulu Sungai Tengah, and he later spoke of himself as a person of Bumi Murakata. His mother is not named in the sources reviewed. She is not invented here.

Primary school was SR Negeri Barabai, completed in 1964. Secondary school was in Banjarmasin: SMP Negeri in 1968 and SMA Negeri in 1971.

The civil-service school track

The path into local government ran through APDN Banjarbaru, completed in 1975, then the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Universitas Lambung Mangkurat. He finished public administration there in 1980 and took the academic title Drs. Published biographies also give him an M.B.A. A VIVA profile instead lists MM. The school that awarded the postgraduate management degree is not…

From Sungai Tabuk to two terms as governor

He entered local government before he finished university. From 1979 to 1982 he was mantri pamong praja in Sungai Tabuk, Banjar Regency, and for part of that time also acting head of the Banjarbaru sub-district office. Through the 1980s and 1990s he held provincial posts in BP-7, the training bureau, revenue-office administration, and the finance bureau of the provincial secretariat.…

Faith, the Ramadan rule, and people he is not

Death notices use the hajj title H. Funeral prayers followed Islamic times, after Zuhr and after Asr. VIVA listed his religion as Islam. As regent he initiated a local rule restricting daytime opening of food and drink stalls during Ramadan and public eating or drinking in open places, with penalties. ANTARA said it later became a provincial regulation and drew…

Banjarbaru offices, coal roads, and after the palace

The achievement Indonesian Wikipedia calls most welcome to residents was Regional Regulation No. 3 of 2008, which barred coal trucks from state roads. He set 23 July 2009 as the public deadline, refused a general dispensation, and told companies they had already had about a year and a half to build special haul roads. The other visible change of place…

Death in Banjarmasin, 6 September 2026

H. Rudy Ariffin bin H. Bachrun Ariffin died on 6 September 2026 at about 11:00 WITA at RS Amanah in Banjarmasin. He was 73. ANTARA Kalsel, RRI, Koran Banjar, Indonesian Wikipedia, and English Wikipedia are the preferred sources for the date. A clinical cause of death was not stated in the ANTARA, RRI, or Koran Banjar notices reviewed. It is not made public here, and it is not filled with a guess. One local report said he had been treated for one day.

On the same Sunday the body was taken from RS Amanah to Masjid Al-Jihad in Banjarmasin for prayer after Zuhr, then to a house of mourning in Banjarbaru, then prayed over again after Asr at Masjid Agung Al-Karomah in Martapura. He was buried that afternoon at Taman Makam Bahagia in Landasan Ulin, beside Taman Makam Pahlawan Bumi Kencana. That is the same cemetery where Hayatun Fardah had been buried in 2021.

No later public memorial was announced in the notices reviewed. Provincial secretariat condolences were quoted by local news. The notices did not name a family charity.
